Healthy Donut Dog Treats
I am so excited to be featured over on Daily Bark with this recipe! If you know Lola and me, then you know we are donut lovers. Anything donut-related, count us in! So, when it comes to healthy dog treats, why not make them donut shaped?! I truly think I only love to cook for her. I never grew up baking or cooking so if I can make these, so can you! :)
INGREDIANTS
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour (You can also use Brown Rice Flour or Oat Flour)
1 Cup Oats
1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Eggs
1 tbsp Honey
1 Banana
For the topping:
Carob Chips
1/2 tbsp Coconut Oil
Smashed Milk Bone
12 Mold Donut Pan
DIRECTIONS
Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees; spray the donut molds with cooking spray and set aside
In large bowl combine flour, oats, peanut butter, banana and coconut oil; mix
Add your egg and honey, and mix till combined
Use your hands to press the dough into the donut molds. Fill each one and press firmly to ensure everything sticks together. It won't rise, so you should make sure each space is tightly packed.
Bake for approximately 12-14 minutes depending on how deep you packed the donut molds
Carefully remove the donuts from the pan and place in freezer while you prep for decorating!! (You want to make sure they are cooled off before frosting.)
TOPPING DIRECTIONS
Crush a small bag of mini Milk Bone treats (or any other dog treats for a topping). Set aside.
Melt roughly 1/2 cup of Carob Chips in a sauce pan on LOW (this all depends on how much you want on top of each donut/how many you make. I had a very thin layer and made 12).
Stir frequently. This is very important so you don’t burn the Carob chips.
While stirring the chips on low, mix in the coconut oil to help the chips avoid sticking to the sides of the pan. It helped me make the frosting thinner. If you want you can leave that step out. Just a personal preference.
Once it’s all mixed together and melted, take out the donuts from the freezer and spread the melted chips around the tops of each donut with a spoon.
Sprinkle smashed milk bone treats on the tops of each one.
Place your finished donuts to the side till the Carob chip topping has harden and then let your pup ENJOY!
